Cloud Camp and a few rainbows, too. This week, we are collaborating with The Children’s Poetry Theater here in Narberth to expand the day and our creativity into writing and performing.

During the morning camp, we will create all things CLOUDS with a few rainbows, too: paint clouds, draw cloud scenes, make cloud pillows, and make cloud props for the children to use when stepping onto the stage at the Children’s Poetry Theater in the afternoon.

We enjoy a read-aloud at the end of the camp morning. We will read about the Cloud People in James and the Giant Peach.

We are expanding our Cats Camp by collaborating with The Children’s Poetry Theater here in Narberth. During the morning session, at Sky Soup, we will make numerous cat-themed art projects. We will use clay to sculpt cats, make a cat-faced pillow, draw and paint cats, and make cat masks and props for the children to use when stepping onto the stage for artists who spend the afternoon at the Children’s Poetry Theater.

We enjoy a read-aloud at the end of the camp morning, and Andy Warhol and his famous cats are among our literature selections.

We will make Galaxy jars, rocket ships, moon rocks and a felted solar system with roving.

We enjoy a read-aloud at the end of the camp morning. We will read Moon Man, by Tomi Ungerer, among other favorites.

HOUSE DESIGN! We begin the week by reading a literary favorite, The Big Orange Splot by Daniel Pinkwater.

Each artist will be given a large wooden house to design and all materials to implement their design. Your artist will first imagine what kind of house it will be….a haunted house, a house for the luckiest pet ever, a castle house, a survival…, whatever you can think of. We will spend the week designing rooms, painting, making wallpaper, furniture, and more. This project is for boys and girls alike.

Costume and Clothing Design: Spend a week in our joyful, creative environment. Students transform ideas into clothing and accessories for an artist’s figure. We’ll convert wooden mannequins by designing and assembling outfits and accessories. Open-ended projects let each child follow their interests: couture, fantasy, everyday style, or caped crusaders. Some campers add a Marvel-style twist and invent their own superhero or shero. Join the creative fun and create whatever makes you happy! If interested, students will explore hand stitching.

Butterflies and Birds...Creatures That Fly, Week 5

Creatures That Fly. Our focus will be on butterflies, birds, and bats for any bat lovers. We will transform our drawings into 3D winged creatures using papier-mâché, sculpt the lifecycle of a butterfly with clay, fire it, and then paint beautiful winged creatures. Artists will make large butterfly wings from cardboard, a signature Sky Soup project, and fly around Narberth.

Join jewelry designer and teacher Stephanie Storm for a fun, hands-on week of jewelry-making camp. We will learn to create stylish beaded bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. Participants will choose their materials in designing each jewelry piece.

Camp is July 3 - July 7 from 1:00-4:00. We will not meet July 4th.

Costume and Clothing Design, Week 9 (Morning) SOLD OUT

Clothing and Costume Design This camp week should be called Fashion Design because that’s what it turns into…making clothing and accessories for the artist’s figure. Other kiddos put a Marvel spin on things and create their own superhero. If that’s your child, we will turn the wooden mannequins into superheroes or sheroes, design, and assemble outfits for your artist’s figure, claim a superpower, and more. Come in and create whatever makes you happy!

Ages 5-12 Bring a snack. We will eat outside in the courtyard.

Who knows what the summer will bring, but right now it seems that in order to keep everyone safe and healthy, we will practice social distancing, frequent handwashing, and the children will not share supplies. We have also invested in two highly rated HEPA air filters for the studio. Two filters will ventilate the space based on the square footage of the room.

Fiber Arts Camp, Week 8

Spend the week exploring Fiber arts and textiles. We will shibori and indigo dying, make a quilt square from a beloved children’s picture book and incorporate trapunto, a quilting technique, make a pillow, weave, and more.
